Zion Tankard joined the IMI team in 2019. Prior to her role IMI, Tankard focused on women’s advocacy with seven years of experience with the Durham County Women’s Commission in Durham County, North Carolina, U.S.A. During her time as Chair of the Commission, she was an integral part of a resolution for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the significance of which was recognized by the United Nations. Tankard also received special recognition from the News & Observer as “Tar Heel of the Week” for the lasting impact of her advocacy for the women and communities in North Carolina.
Tankard is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education with a focus on Women’s History. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Development and a Master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA.
Originally from Los Angeles, Calif., Zion now calls Durham, N.C., home. Zion’s favorite part about working with non-profits is, “The challenge of learning new things and new people from all over the world.”
Zion played the flute as a child.
